Great journalism is integral to maintaining a vibrant democracy and to keeping its citizens informed and engaged. The best reporters take us inside the events that shape our world through stories that speak to us about the people and forces shaping society, for better or worse. Great journalism in all forms has an uncommon ability to create role models, expose corruption, and change the way we see the world.
Journalists can have this effect only when they are able to complete a difficult and sometimes financially challenging educational experience. The E4S Foundation was created to provide critical financial support to young people working to become journalists and to use their platforms to tell the most important stories of our time and to strive for positive social change.
The Foundation is named in honor of Enzo Alvarenga, a freshman journalist at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland who was killed tragically in a cycling accident on June 1st, 2022. Enzo, a kind and creative young man, was dedicated to racial and social justice. Created in his memory, the Foundation's mission is to support other young people who will carry on his legacy.
Together with our partner, The Giving Back Fund, E4S carries on Enzo's vision for a world where journalism is a powerful force for social good.
Great reporting can change the world.

We support tomorrow's great journalists today.
